Key answer

The dataset reports prices paid, not today's available tariff

The tables split electricity and gas prices by consumption band and publish figures including and excluding the Climate Change Levy. They support trend and broad benchmark analysis, but they do not identify the quote available to an individual business today.

Read four details before citing a number

Identify the fuel, time period, consumption band and CCL treatment. The average for a high-consumption electricity band should not be presented as the price for a small shop, and a quarterly value should not be labelled as a live market offer.

A quoted contract can differ because it reflects a specific meter, region, load profile, credit position, purchasing date, duration and supplier margin.
