Key answer
The annual consumption assumption matters
Business gas quotes are supply-specific. Compare unit rate, standing charge, term and annual estimate using the same kWh. If a site has changed its opening hours, heating system or production, check whether historic consumption still represents expected use.

What to collect before comparing gas
A recent bill can provide the Meter Point Reference Number, consumption history, rates and contract details. Note material operational changes and ask how the quote's annual consumption figure was chosen.
The industry's Annual Quantity is an estimate used in market processes. It can update as qualifying readings are received, but it should not be treated by itself as proof that a bill is wrong.
- MPRN and supply address
- Annual kWh and recent readings
- Current contract end date
- Unit rate, standing charge and term
- Known changes to heating, occupancy or production
