Key answer
Use your own meter and consumption information
A quote normally needs the premises address, MPAN, annual consumption, meter details, current supplier and contract end date. Ask the provider to show the unit rate, standing charge, term, annual estimate, commission and variable charges in writing.

Information to gather
A recent bill is the most efficient starting point. It can identify the supply number, tariff information and consumption history. If the site has changed its operating hours, equipment or occupancy, explain that before a supplier relies on old consumption.
For more complex or half-hourly supplies, interval data and agreed capacity can materially affect a procurement exercise.
- Business and supply address
- MPAN and meter type
- Annual electricity consumption
- Current supplier and contract end date
- Payment preference and credit information when requested

Before accepting an offer
Check the legal entity, supply address, rates, start date and duration. Read what happens at renewal or termination and whether charges can change. If a broker is involved, retain the principal terms and remuneration disclosure with the final contract.
