Key answer
Normalise the consumption first
Recalculate each quote using the same annual consumption, days and tax treatment. Compare the unit rate, standing charge, term, fees and variable items. If the quote relies on historic usage that no longer fits the site, request a corrected assumption.

The core comparison
Write the two offers side by side. Multiply annual kWh by each unit rate, add the annual standing charge and any known fixed fees, then identify elements that could change.
A supplier's annual estimate may be useful, but it should be checked because two providers can use different consumption figures or exclusions.
- Same MPRN and premises
- Same annual consumption
- Same intended start date
- Same VAT and levy treatment
- All separate or variable charges visible

Check operational changes
If the premises has been vacant, expanded, refurbished or fitted with new heating equipment, historical consumption may overstate or understate future use. Document the expected change so decision-makers understand the uncertainty in the annual comparison.
