Key answer
Gather the MPRN, annual use and contract dates
Use a current bill to identify the supply and rates. Record recent meter readings and any expected change in gas use. Ask the provider to confirm the consumption used, contract duration, annual estimate and every separate charge.

Quote preparation checklist
Explain changes such as vacancy, extended hours, a new boiler or altered production. Historical industry data may not yet reflect the way the business will use gas in the new contract period.
Keep quotes produced in a narrow time window. That reduces the chance that wholesale-market movement, rather than supplier terms, explains the difference.
- MPRN and premises address
- Recent annual consumption and readings
- Current supplier and contract end date
- Expected operational changes
- Preferred contract start and duration

Validate the final offer
Check the business name, supply address, rates, dates, payment method and commission disclosure before acceptance. Save the offer and first invoice so the contracted rates can be checked.
