Key answer
Compare each fuel on its own evidence
Use the correct MPAN or MPRN and annual consumption for each supply. Recalculate unit and standing charges, add fees, identify variable items and compare contracts produced in the same market window.

What to prepare
Collect current bills, contract end dates, supply identifiers and annual consumption. If operations have changed, document the expected impact on future use. A provider may quote electricity and gas together, but each calculation should remain visible.
Do not let a combined saving claim hide a poor result on one fuel. Record the annual total and assumptions for electricity and gas separately, then add them if a combined view is needed.
- Separate electricity and gas consumption
- Unit and standing charges for each fuel
- Contract duration and start dates
- Broker remuneration and other fees
- Fixed, variable and pass-through components

A comparison is a decision record
Save the quotes, calculation and reasons for selection. This helps with internal approval and gives the business a clear reference when the first invoices arrive.
